Why you should care about disabled access to your web site

It runs in IE, what do I care?

Three very good reasons:

1. If your site is based in the UK or Australia you legally will have to very soon . Other countries are following suit so don't think you're safe in another Country.

2. In the UK alone there are 8.5 million disabled people with an estimated annual spenditure of £50 to £60 Billion per year. This is a huge market that you are missing out on.

3. It's the right thing to do. Why discriminate against anyone?

But it will mean spending a fortune getting it fixed?

Unlikely. To pass the most basic grade would probably only take a few minutes per page.

How can I see the problem?

Good question. You can run each page through Bobby which will show you in greater detail the problems you have and it will also suggest how to correct the problems. You can also download either Lynx or Opera (which you run in user mode and selecting emulate text browser). This will only show you how some people will access your page and you need to be aware that there are many different ways a person can access your site.

I can't do this myself, any suggestions?
