Disabled Access Details; What does it mean?

Shopping Site Listings believes that a web site should be accessible to everyone and that includes the millions of disabled people all over the World. We can see the huge impact the Internet has made to many peoples lives. Not only the housebound but also blind, paralyzed and many more.

We are trying to compile a list of online shopping stores which the disabled can access using the various methods and hardware they have at their disposal.

We run the web sites mainly through two text only browsers; Opera and Lynx to see what the page would look like. We also check their code to see if we can find anything that might cause problems.

I sometimes see a double award; what does it mean?

A very few sites win our double award for pure excellence in disabled access to web sites. For it to win this award it really has to put every effort into making the site as accessible as possible.

Is there anything higher than the double award?

Yes we have a highest award medal which so far only a handful of web sites have won. For a site to pass this award it must be Grade AAA accessible on all pages, W3C HTML & CSS compliant as well as being easy to navigate and accessible in many different tools.

Great idea, can I help in any way?

What we don't have is a text-to-speech reader or other kinds of specialist hardware/software. It would be great if people could help us review these sites using any special software or hardware that they have. It would be so nice if we could also let people know that a site has passed on various applications that people use. Our goal is to have a list of programmes and hardware that each site has been checked against. If you think you could help us then please contact us with details of what you could help us with.

I've found mistakes in your rankings; what can I do about it?

Please contact us and let us know the problem you had and what you were using to access the site. Shopping Site Listings is a brand new site and there are bound to be some mistakes. We are 100% committed to providing accurate information and we would really value any comments you have to make. We really do want your feedback!

What are you making out of it?

We have a set of ads and some of the links will be going through commission junction. The actual money we will be making we know already will be peanuts and might just cover the hosting costs. We are not in this to make money. we are doing this to help the millions of disabled people out there.

Who is we?

Clear Blue Media is a web design company in Torquay, Devon and their head designer Simon Day is the one who running this site in his spare time. Simon Day already has a site that gives free desktop wallpapers of Torbay because he wanted to give something back to Torbay. He has also just retired from the Special Constabulary after nine years service and wanted to do something else to help people and after 3 months thinking what to do this site was born.
